13 inexpensive Vegetarian wedding Dishes that your guests will Love
You’ve been shredding for the wedding for months now and as one of your no-gain disciplines you’ve gone vegetarian. Suddenly, you no longer crave hamburgers and tofu has become alarmingly tasty. Sound familiar? Probably not, but whatever your reasoning for serving vegetarian food at your wedding, this is the article for you!
I have been vegetarian my entire life, and most of my religious community is also vegetarian. Therefore, I am well-versed in the vegetarian recipe world. These are real winners, folks, and the nice thing about vegetarian dishes is that often times they are cheaper. Check out these options for your special day.
Ingredients: black beans, garlic, salt, cheese, arugula, sautéed peppers, sour cream, taco shells
Tacos are a crowd-favorite and fairly easy to compile. Using seasoned black beans really spruces up the meal, too! If you are able to afford it, adding avocado makes this recipe even more popular and taste even better.
2. Pesto Penne
Ingredients: penne, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, spinach
Pasta is a delicious option that can easily be fancied up for the big day. For example, add artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes to the pesto dish and it is instantly made wedding worthy!
3. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Tomato Soup
Ingredients: bread, cheese, tomato soup, basil, salt, pepper, garlic
Grilled cheese will be a hit with kiddos and adults alike! Tomato soup is easy to make in bulk, and adding seasoning to a canned mix is an easy way to make something simple so much better.
4. Pumpkin Curry Soup
Ingredients: pumpkin, ginger powder, curry powder, vegetable broth, canned coconut milk, garlic, salt
This is a delicious soup for those winter weddings that are bound to need some warmth in the cold weather. I would suggest serving this with a nice salad and some bread. This is one of the best soup recipes I have ever encountered—every time I make it for people I get raving positive reviews. A winner for sure!
Ingredients: chips, cheese, black beans, onions, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, salsa, Ranch dressing
Nachos are another great Mexican dish that can be made in bulk pretty easily. The great thing about nachos? They are cheap and simple to cook!
Ingredients: waffle mix, water, whipped cream, peanut butter, maple syrup, applesauce, berry blend
Waffles are often not thought of as a typical wedding dish, but I would like to challenge this status quo. Why not serve waffles at your wedding? Everyone—and I do mean, everyone—loves waffles! Have you ever met a person who didn’t like waffles? No! You get my point.
7. Baked Potatoes and Corn Bread
Ingredients: potatoes, sour cream, cheese, butter, chives, corn bread mix, water
This would be an excellent option for weddings that are going for a more rustic, southern charm. Baked potatoes are child-friendly and the corn bread adds a nice touch and will fill up your guests. The toppings on baked potatoes are completely subject to your preference and your fiancé’s, so feel free to substitute out the cheese and butter with grandma’s special baked potato aioli or whatever your heart desires.
8. Corn Dogs and Sweet Potato Fries
Ingredients: vegetarian corn dogs, sweet potatoes, olive oil, salt, pepper, ketchup
I will warn you from the get-go: this one will be a little more expensive. Veggie meat can add up quickly, take it from me: a veggie-meat addict who is broke from being in college. It’s a devastating reality, but veggie meat is not super economical. Another warning on this one is that if your guests are mostly meat-eaters, I cannot promise you that they will appreciate vegetarian corn dogs. Veggie meat tastes nothing like real meat—it truly is an acquired taste. All that being said, I love vegetarian corn dogs and if you think the majority of your guests would too, then go for it! (Also the sweet potato fries are amazing!)
Ingredients: pizza crusts, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce, basil, veggies of your choice
Pop some of these suckers in the oven and you’ll have yourself an Italian restaurant ready for your guests! Pizzas can feed a lot of people, and they are also kid-friendly! I would suggest having ample cheese pizzas, and then having some roasted veggies on top: I recommend spinach, onion, pepper, and cauliflower if you’re feeling extra daring!
10. Garlic Mushroom Spaghetti
Ingredients: garlic, mushrooms, spaghetti, marinara, basil, parmesan
Another Italian favorite is Spaghetti. I would recommend splitting up the spaghetti into two kinds of dishes—one of the kids and one for the adults. One dish could be just topped with marinara and parmesan. The other could be a creamy sautéed mushroom sauce with garlic and salt and pepper. This one is catered more towards the adults, who will go crazy for the yummy sautéed mushrooms and garlic!
Your special day will be absolutely magical not only because of your delicious entrees, but moreover because you are marrying the love of your life! So make sure you celebrate with dancing, kissing, and scrumptious food!
